This is sort of a re-do of the cat in a red dress I did back in '09. [link] I was walking by while dad had her up on the computer screen, so later in the day, in between crossword puzzles while killing some time, (jeez, I actually had FREE time to kill? ) I ended up sketching her without fully intending to. ^_^' I was pleased with the end result so I ended up scanning her and finishing the pic in the GIMP. (And all the while I had "She's a Star" by Barry Manilow stuck in my head...) *although I actually listened to Celine Dion while working in the GIMP* XDD

The difference between this and the 2009 version is really remarkable! I especially love the soft lighting, I would have intuitively known there was a spotlight on her even without the beams showing.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate that, because it's hard for me to judge for myself how well I've been doing with my colors/shading. (I know my coloring/shading methods are definitely DIFFERENT from what I was doing in 2009, but as to how much improvement there's been, that's always hard to judge...) Do you think I'm too subtle with my shading and highlighting? I don't like adding a LOT of highlights (and I tend to avoid too deep shadows) but is there enough contrast in my work? (I guess I still have a lot to learn about colors and lighting.)
Oh, hey, just a heads up--I sent you an email. (Been a long time coming, no?)
It depends on what kind of mood and what kind of lightening, right? Deep dark shadows probably accompany dramatic lighting. I also liked how you shaded with purple on this one, I always thought shadows with a bit of color look better. I got the email and I wrote back.
